Abstract
When I became president of the International Commission for Optics (ICO) in 2021, my first order of business was to explore how the ICO could best serve its 56 member territories, seven optical societies, and developing countries through promotional and educational efforts related to optics and photonics. I knew my goal for the ICO would be to aid in solving serious world issues like water scarcity, climate change, pollution and food supply.
