N2 - We have measured and analyzed the temperature dependence of the conductivity of composites in which nickel nanoparticles are embedded in an insulating matrix. Observing a transition from a variable-range hopping to a near-neighbor hopping, with increasing temperature, is suggested to correspond to the microscopically observed transition from a homogeneous-like to a percolation-like electrical network.
