Abstract

The scope and prospects of physical chemistry in the beginning of 21st century are presented. Physical chemistry helps to understand the simple model systems on the molecular scale, the structure and dynamics of small molecules, monoatomic and diatomic species, and their surfaces. The study opened ways to explore more complex systems, proteins, molecular machines and complex catalytic reactions. Quantum chemistry provides quantitative predictions of structure and energetics for systems of realistic chemical interest, helping experimentalists to understand the reactivity and formation of molecular assemblies.
