Abstract

The reactivity of atomic hydrogen in alkaline solutions of chloroacetic acid was investigated. The pH and concentration dependence yield kinetic evidence for the formation of H2O- in alkaline solutions: H + OH-→ H2O- with kH+OH- = 6 × 105 l. mole-1 sec.-1. These results are correlated with radiation chemical data, and the nature of the H2O- radical is discussed.
