Abstract

The nephelauxetic parameter β was measured for Sn2+, Sb3+, Tl+, Pb2+ and Bi3+ incorporated in phosophate, borate and germanate glasses. β and Pauling electronegativity of glass-forming cations were correlated. It was found that the factors h and k obtained from the nephelauxetic effect are interrelated and both depend on the cation for which they were calculated.
