Abstract

The development of a solid radioimmunoassay inhibition test using anti-leishmanial monoclonal antibodies is described for the detection of leishmanial promastigote infections in sand flies, as an aid to epidemiology, As few as 6-12 Leishmania major promastigotes could be detected in laboratory-bred Phlebotomus papatasi. The test was sensitive and species-specific.
