Abstract

Samples were collected and analyzed for Fe(II), Fe(III), Fetot, Cu(I), Cutot, Mn(III+IV), Mntot, Cr(III), Cr(VI), S(IV), S(VI), organic ligands (formate, acetate, oxalate), TOC (total organic carbon), pH, major cations (Na+, Ca2+, NH4+, Mg2+, K+), chloride, sulfate, nitrate, peroxides (RO2H), and aldehydes (RCHO); the amount of sunlight was also measured. The concentrations and the ratios between the measured oxidation states and the total metal concentrations are as follows: Fe(II) (μM) 0.1-5, Fe(II)/Fetot 0.02-0.55, Cu(I) (μM) 0.02-0.27, Cu(I)/Cutot 0.3-0.96, Mn(IV) (μM) 0.026-0.21, Mn(IV)/Mntot 0.25-0.97, Cr(III) (μM) 0.002-0.051, Cr(III)/Crtot0.09-0.74. -from Authors
