Abstract

Glucagon-induced rise in plasma cyclic AMP levels was used to study glucagon-sensitive adenylate cyclase activity in aged man. No significant difference was observed in plasma cyclic AMP rise after glucagon (0.0004 mg/kg) infusion between a group of 9 older (mean age 78 years) and 9 younger individuals (mean age 31 years). A similar rise in plasma glucose levels 10-15 min after glucagon administration was observed in both the younger and older individuals. These results are discussed in relation to previous findings of reduced beta-adrenergic-stimulated adenylate cyclase activity in aged man.
