Abstract

This article examines the use by the High Court of Justice of its jurisdiction to shape public policy in relation to equality of the sexes in the light of some of its leading judgments. It assesses the degree of creativity displayed by the Court in this area and the level of influence exerted by the judgments on norms of governmental behaviour. It states that the struggle for equality must be conducted on two fronts - the conceptualimage front and the practical front.
