Abstract
Over the past decade, robotic-assisted surgery procedures have increased dramatically. This trend is associated with the influx of new robotic systems and more robotic designs. The different designs differentiate in the surgeon’s console, the configuration of the arm carts, and the concept of single-port or multiport instrument insertion. The Hugo RAS[[sup]]TM[[/sup]] is a new robotic platform, with more than 5600 operations already performed by 2023. This system has a modular design and an open console. It was designed to improve the docking angles and instrument maneuverability, increase the usage versatility, and reduce the operational cost. In this chapter, we will review the concept of modular robots and introduce the unique design of the Hugo RAS[[sup]]TM[[/sup]] and its specific advantages as a modular robotic system.
