Abstract

Hypothalamic implantation of drugs, which abolish spontaneous drinking and the response to hypertonic saline, also suppresses the increased water intake, following a hypovolemic stimulus. It is concluded that drinking responses evoked by different mechanisms share at least the part of the pathway from the hypothalamus to higher brain structures.
