Abstract

Discusses the relationship between habitat structure, environmental stability and species diversity, and develops the example of polychaete use of empty tubes formed by dead Dendropoma (Gastropoda: Vermetidae) as intertidal bench-like reefs on the Sinai coast of the Gulf of Elat, Red Sea. The role of disturbance in the community properties of the Neredidae subset of the polychaete assemblage is examined, and predictions are tested concerning population growth rates and competitive interactions. -P.J.Jarvis
