Abstract

The ESR and magnetization study of dilute Dy ion in a single crystal diamagnetic matrix of LaSb is reported. Our results indicate that the ion-lattice interaction plays an important role in that system and that the cluster constituting the Dy ion and its neighboring ions exhibits a local distortion induced by the applied magnetic field. This distortion modifies the magnetic moment. The magnetoelastic coefficient is extracted and its value is very close to the value obtained earlier for the concentrated system DySb.
