Abstract
The validity of the linear chain model for the β-W crystal structure is investigated when coupling between the chains is taken into account. It is shown that a one-dimensional character persists in the presence of moderate interchain and interband interaction giving rise to constant energy surfaces in the form of "torn-out" planes.
