Abstract
Examines concentrations (mellahs) of Jews in Southern Morocco through to the early 1960s as part of an ethnology salvage project carried out amongst former residents of these Moroccan communities now living in Israel. Oral history methods are employed in the general absence of documents. Aspects of these Jewish communities' recent history, language, population distribution and sociological structure are considered with regional aspects of communal organisation and their saints and pilgrimages. Each topic is reconstructed from interviews with former residents of these Jewish settlements.-K.Sutton
