Abstract

The liquidus of the phase diagram of MgCl2·6 H2O+MgBr2·6 H2O mixtures was determined, and a continuous series of mixed crystals was found to be formed on freezing. The freezing point of MgBr2 · 6 H2O was confirmed to be 164.4±0.3°C, but on repeated melting-freezing cycles this value decreased, due to loss of water. An approximate value of the specific heat of fusion of MgBr2 · 6 H2O, of 150 J g-1, was determined.
