Abstract

The liquidus of the phase diagram of MgCl₂·6 H₂O+MgBr₂·6 H₂O mixtures was determined, and a continuous series of mixed crystals was found to be formed on freezing. The freezing point of MgBr₂ · 6 H₂O was confirmed to be 164.4±0.3°C, but on repeated melting-freezing cycles this value decreased, due to loss of water. An approximate value of the specific heat of fusion of MgBr₂ · 6 H₂O, of 150 J g^-1, was determined.
