The political economy of food in Africa

Seeks to go beyond existing definitions of food policies in an attempt to understand some of the variable connections between food-related problems (as reflective of economic trends) and political patterns in contemporary Africa. Three distinct manifestations of food insecurity are evident in Africa today. The first relates to the problem of food prices, which is closely linked to consumption patterns; the second centers on issues of food availability; and the third revolves around problems of real scarcity: of insufficient production.
