Abstract

The presence, distribution, and some properties of a highly specific Tribolium-protease inhibitor from wheat were investigated. The inhibitor was found in all varieties of cultivated wheat assayed and, in lower concentrations, in wild species of Triticum and Aegilops. The implications of this distribution are discussed. Tribolium-protease inhibitor has no effect on trypsin, alphachymotrypsin, or papain. However, Tribolium protease itself does not differ from trypsin in its in vitro action pattern on polylysine.
