Abstract
The production of Macrobrachium rosenbergii monosex populations was examined under intensive growth conditions in earthern ponds. It was found that the production of an all-male prawn population was superior to the production of a mixed population and an all-female population. The advantages were apparent in total marketable yields, average weight of prawns and calculated income per unit area. Prawns raised in the all-male population reached marketable size earlier in the season, resulting in higher yields being obtained from the partial harvests which were initiated after three months of growout and thus, elongation of the fresh product marketing period. -from Authors
