Abstract

Comparison between platelet growth of mercuric iodine (HgI2) from the vapor phase with and without addition of polyethylene has shown that the presence of polyethylene is not essential to the morphological preference of platelet formation. However, it has been found that polyethylene improves the stoichiometry of HgI2, as shown by a higher transformation temperature (Ttr) from red to yellow phase of the mercuric iodine and it improves also its nuclear detector performance.
