title = "The Schabertian Way",
abstract = "I first met Tilo Schabert in the winter of 1996, at Jerusalem{\textquoteright}s Mishkenot Sha{\textquoteright}ananim, a lovely building located on the boundary between East and West Jerusalem. It hosts international artists, intellectuals and supporters of Israel{\textquoteright}s cultural milieu. A “Professor Schabert” was scheduled to deliver a lecture about Plato{\textquoteright}s Timeaus. I showed up with no prior acquaintance or introduction. In Tilo{\textquoteright}s parlance, my entry point into our relationship was of a “spectator”, primarily interested in hearing a scholar{\textquoteright}s take on Plato.² On the day scheduled for the lecture a terrorist blew himself up, taking with him to their deaths Israeli civilians.",
