Abstract
Herpes simplex virus antigen was found to be present in the sulcular epithelium of patients with clinically healthy gingiva. Out of 18 patients, 10 (61.1%) were positive for the presence of Herpes antigen by the indirect immunofluorescent method. The crevicular epithelium seems to be a preferential site for latent Herpes virus. The implication of these findings on recurrences and possible pathways for the spread of herpetic infection is discussed.
