Abstract

The excess Gibbs free energy changes on mixing aqueous solutions of tetrapropylammonium chloride and sodium chloride were determined at 298.15 K by the gravimetric isopiestic method. The experimental osmotic coefficients were treated by the Scatchard and Friedman procedures to yield the excess free energy of mixing ΔGex and the free energy interaction parameters g0 and g1. Results obtained are discussed in terms of self interaction of tetrapropylammonium cations as indicated by positive values of g0.
