Abstract

We solve the partial differential equation pertaining to the baryon-number-two state in the Skyrme model with the product ansatz in a Born-Oppenheimer approach. The solution obeys exactly conservation of baryon number and has a clear definition for the baryon location. We find that soliton profiles are strongly distorted at short interbaryon separations and single-particle static observables are also affected. The nucleon-nucleon static interaction is calculated.
