The use of libraries by graduate students in psychology as indicated by citations

The use of libraries by graduate psychology students is studied indirectly through the citations in their master’s theses. It is shown that their citations extend beyond psychology, over a vast array of disciplines. Although most of the citations refer to periodicals, other forms of publication, as well as unpublished material, are also represented. In some subject areas many of the citations are recent; in others, however, citations of material that is at least twenty years old are frequent. In view of the interdisciplinary nature of the field it is tentatively suggested that psychology collections be housed in the social sciences area.
