Abstract

The recent publication of a "bilingual" edition of the Hebrew Bible, with the original text and a modern Israeli Hebrew "translation" placed side by side can be viewed as a part of an ongoing process that began in antiquity and continued through the Middle Ages. This project raises particular theoretical, linguistic, and ideological questions that are unique to the legacy of the Hebrew Bible.
