Abstract

Previous studies of rural North African Jewish groups have not directly confronted the problem of the scale of these communities. In reconstructing the culture of Tripolitanian Jewry, which migrated to Israel in 1949, the question of scale is examined by assessing the degree to which the rural communities and Tripoli shared cultural traits. The approach used is that of hypothesis‐testing, together with the application of tests of significance. 1974 American Anthropological Association
