Abstract
The Calderón production presented in Paris at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in 1981 was the repetition of a former production. Noces de sang which Victor Garcia directed in 1980 at the Habima Theatre in Tel-Aviv is this stage visionary's last creation. Nothing Spanish can be found in it. Victor Garcia transforms Noces de sang into a cosmic drama in which universal forces are at play. The stage was «a hole above which is set a diamond transparent like the soul». The costumes, made with various different materials originating in all the phases of the Creation, mineral as well as vegetal or animal, expressed his intention aiming at a metatheatre. Garcia's cosmic vision is in keeping with Lorca's work, just as the abyss in the setting chosen for Le Balcon corresponds to the true structure of Genet's text. Confronted with Claudel, Genet, Arrabal or Lorca, Garcia does not direct a play but finds and gives back the creative spirit of the playwright. These apparent betrayals were in fact deep acts of love.
