N2 - An "unlimited" electron and ion acceleration is shown to occur in the field of an intense "tapered" plasma wave. This acceleration scheme does not require high injection energies and pre-bunching of the accelerated particles and could operate at moderate plasma wave amplitudes. A possible way of the phase velocity "tapering" is suggested.
