Abstract
An "unlimited" electron and ion acceleration is shown to occur in the field of an intense "tapered" plasma wave. This acceleration scheme does not require high injection energies and pre-bunching of the accelerated particles and could operate at moderate plasma wave amplitudes. A possible way of the phase velocity "tapering" is suggested.
