Abstract
Because of the low resolution of the soft-X-ray spectra emitted by hot plasmas, the model of Unresolved Transition Arrays is a convenient tool for their interpretation. Compact formulae have been obtained for the first and second order moments of the weighted distribution of the line wavenumbers of any array in intermediate coupling, giving the average wavenumber and the width of the array. In supplement, many properties of the arrays are presented, e.g., the preferential deexcitation, the statistics of levels and lines, and the effect of configuration mixing.
