Abstract

This paper presents wavelength selective 1 x K switching systems based on free-space optics and microelectromechanical (MEMS) mirrors, and consist of two major subassemblies. These wavelength-selective 1 x K switching systems integrate channel mux/demux, switch and VOA functionality into compact, low-loss units with flattop passband characteristics. Their utility and cost-effectiveness may satisfy the requirements of next-generation optically-transparent networks.
