Abstract

Even today there remain obstacles to full equality for women virtually everywhere in our lives and in the world. Many explanations have been suggested, from biological to psychoanalytic, but in essence the problem we face is patriarchy. That is, the dominance, entitlement, and power of men. It happened not because of animosity toward women but rather because it has been men who have designed our societies and institutions according to their needs and inclinations. What is important is how women have sought to change this situation, through the different waves of feminism, international endeavors, and revolutionary women speaking of power relations, difference, and even peace. This chapter provides insights from my life, my experiences, and my recollections of living a feminist life.
