N2 - After having defined Zionism through the Basle Declaration (1897), according to which Zionism wishes to establish a homeland, and later a State, for the Jewish people (in Palestine), this article looks at what appears to have been the major problem for Zionism: the search for legitimacy, both international legitimacy and internal (to the Jewish people) legitimacy. Finally, this article looks at the major difficulty faced in achieving the goals of Zionism: coexistence of the Jewish State with the Palestinian people.
